Music for the Masses 19 – 24 May 2000

Music for the Masses 18 – 17 May 2000

One of the perils of the early days of Bay Radio was that it involved presenting from the DJ booth in the Aberystwyth student union. This meant that there was a fair chance that at some point your equipment might be suddenly removed for one reason or another…

Music for the Masses 17 – 10 May 2000

If you’ve ever wondered how real radio stations do competitions, the answer is that they make up pretend entries. When I was doing my Bay Radio show, I obviously hadn’t learnt this yet…

Music for the Masses 12 – 8 March 2000

While I was presenting my show on Bay Radio fifteen years ago, I would keep some pretty detailed notes – it was a daytime show, and I needed to play the role of DJ. On this particular occasion, someone must have come up with a good quote about how the purpose of marriage is to have children, and for some reason I’ve noted down Ken Livingstone‘s name. I wonder why…

Music for the Masses 11 – 1 March 2000

Universities, seats of learning though they may be, are not always seats of perfection, so a note from your producer saying “Please mention karioky,” as shown on the image below, shouldn’t be too much of a surprise! Just in case I forgot to mention it on Bay Radio back in 2000, there’s karioky at PJM on Wednesday night at 8pm.

Music for the Masses 10 – 23 February 2000

By February 2000, it seems Bay Radio was actually starting to run pretty smoothly, and my show was starting to go pretty well. Although I was still having problems with timing…

Music for the Masses 9 – 16 February 2000

For the uninitiated, Sunrise Radio was a station which used to carry the Independent Radio News around the UK via satellite, and was kind enough to leave a three second gap at the start and end so that stations such as Bay Radio could pick it up. Trying to catch it was a fine art, and relied on your clock being completely accurate…

Notes: A-woo, my first one attempting to get IRN without Sunrise Radio… and it was moderately successful as well – except for a severe panic to get the 12.00 news (a wire had come loose somewhere), and a microphone which wasn’t plugged in. Mmmm, c’est la vie…

Music for the Masses 8 – 9 February 2000

Way back in the distant past, I used to do a student radio show for Bay Radio in Aberystwyth called Music for the Masses. Show 8 would have sounded a little bit like this…

Notes: The second in the “me against the world” week, which was probably less good than its predecessor, completely uneventful, and once again I decided the Rag Week jingle was rubbish. Oh yeah, and while I had far too many tracks the previous day, for this show I had far too few. You never can be too careful…
