Week of Kraftwerk

By my calculations, this week marks a very special anniversary. Actually, even if I’ve got it slightly wrong, let’s celebrate it now anyway, just because. But if I have got it right, then one of the most important albums of the twentieth century, Kraftwerk‘s Autobahn, was released forty years ago this week.

For the rest of the 1970s and early 1980s, these upstarts from Düsseldorf turned up every year or two with another concept album full of weird home-made synth sounds. The bulk of their recording career took place in little more than a decade, and yet the influence they have had on the world of music left ripples which can still be felt today.

Over the course of this week, we’ll take a quick journey through a few of the Kraftwerk releases. If you haven’t read it yet, be sure to check out the Beginner’s guide to Kraftwerk here.
